SINES WALKING TOUR | The birthplace of the navigator Vasco da Gama is today the wealthiest town of the Alentejo Coast
Today one of the biggest ports for goods in Europe, Sines was formerly a simple fishing harbor with an imposing medieval castle, churches with unexpected pieces of art, beautiful belvederes and the primitive Old Town characterized by its parallel streets that lead to its quiet bay.
This tour covers many of the must-see attractions of the city center starting in the Modern Arts Center, a remarkable project of contemporary architecture in all of Alentejo. After, we will walk along the historical center throughout the main streets and observe some manueline portals, buildings of local cultural institutions, iconic squares, and the town museum inside the fortress, which has protected the town since 1424, and since then has been the scene of many events in Portuguese history.
Leaving the castle stands the statue of the local hero Vasco da Gama. Get to know the true story of his life listening the tales and the life adventures of the man who changed the world in the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
