ALCÁCER DO SAL WALKING TOUR | The oldest Town of the Alentejo Coast hides never-ending secrets and stories to be discovered
Since its foundation, the 3000 year-old-town of Alcácer do Sal has been the richest and most important historic Town on the Alentejo Coast, and since then has been filled with treasures inside: statues, manor houses, churches and the imposing castle that still today remind us of the presence of many civilizations.
To start our Tour we will use our energy to climb up to the top of the castle and admire the views over the salt and patchworks of rice paddies of Alcácer do Sal that brought so much fame and fortune to the town.
After, we will walk down the hill where we will visit the Saint James Church or the Basílica dos Martires, the medieval Downtown, and to finish our Tour you will hear about the life history of the local hero Pedro Nunes, and its important contribution for the success of Portugal during the discoveries in the 16th century.
