ALCÁCER DO SAL WALKING TOUR | The oldest Town of the Alentejo Coast hides never-ending secrets and stories to be discovered

Since its foundation, the 3000 year-old-town of Alcacer do Sal has been the richest and most important historic Town on the Alentejo Coast, and since then has been filled with treasures inside: statues, manor houses, churches and the imposing castle that still today remind us of the presence of many civilizations.

To start our Tour we will use our energy to climb the town's narrow roads up to the top of the Castle, to admire an amazing view over the salt and patchworks of rice paddies of Alcacer do Sal that brought so much fame and fortune to the town. A few meters further is located the former Convent of Our Lady of Aracoelli, that hides the Archaeological Crypt Museum and 27 Centuries of history.

After the visit, we will walk down the hill where we will enter in the Church of Our Lady of Castle or Saint James, before getting to the medieval Downtown. To finish our Tour you will hear about the life history of the local hero Pedro Nunes, and its important contribution for the success of Portugal during the discoveries in the 16th century.
